OCCLUSION
TMJ (temporal, mandibular joint) syndrome is a cycle of
pain, muscle spasms and joint imbalance where the jaw meets
the skull.
The
most common symptoms resulting from this problem are
headaches, earaches, difficulty in opening and closing,
clicking or popping or sore or painful jaw muscles.
This
cycle of pain, spasms and joint imbalance can be started by
clenching or grinding the teeth, a poor bite caused by
missing teeth or badly aligned teeth, a blow to the joint,
arthritis or emotional stress.
A
splint , which is a plastic mouthpiece, can reduce clenching
and grinding and help to restore harmony.
Once it is proven that the splint has relieved the symptoms,
we can restore balance to the joint by a number of differing
means including adjusting your bite.
