Sealants

A sealant is a thin plastic film painted on the chewing surfaces of back teeth. Scientific studies have proven that properly applied sealants are 100% effective in protecting the tooth surface from caries, as small food particles and bacteria that cause cavities cannot penetrate through or around a sealant.

Sealant application involves cleaning the surface of the tooth. An etching agent or gel is applied to the enamel surface of the tooth, including the pits and grooves, to create a bond. After the agent is rinsed away and the tooth thoroughly dried, the sealant material is applied and allowed to harden.

Sealant treatment is painless.

In line with our practice philosophy regarding prevention, all parents at Centre Dentaire Amical are encouraged to elect to have their children’s’ teeth fissure sealed.
